Information about the New MCPL-UNION Agreement.

A reminder that we will be voting on the new MCPL-Union agreement  this Wednesday 8/3 at 6:30. in meeting room 2B.

We will also be discussing changes to the Local Constitution and the reasons we are reviewing it.

Please keep in mind that the Agreement does not include the Personnel Policy Manual.  Because we have the Labor Management Committee  we can discuss these policies and review these policies along with Salaries and benefits at any time.  We have several areas we hope to address at a later time. In the meantime we have also excepted changes to the manual, that were punctuation corrections, font changes and wording that reflected the current service model. Things like pages are not information handlers.  We made sure that none of the changes resulted in a change in policy.

The majority of the changes in the agreement were simply adjusting language for the current service model and changing dates.    Besides these changes here are the major changes.

1. The negotiation teams may now name one alternate to fill if a team member is unable to attend three or more negotiation meetings.

2. We will have a little more flexibility in using Library Email.  While we will not be able receive emails from the staff, we will be able to contact all union eligible staff with information regarding meetings, officers and events, within the email instead of just directing you to the Union Blog or your personal emails.

3. We managed to get language in that says that library would work as much as possible towards having more predictable work schedules for staff and providing a better work/life balance.

4. Any significant changes in staffing and classification/reclassification will go through the Labor Management Committee.  This gives us a chance to address and inquire about how these changes will affect staff and why they are taking place if we choose to do so.

Thanks,

Keith Carter

MCPL Union Local 2802 will have a general membership meeting on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm in meeting room 2B of the Library.   We have several important items on the agenda  that require a vote  so please come if you can.    We will send out and post information prior to the meeting so that staff who are working can vote during their breaks. We expect the meeting to last no more than an hour but are allowing the extra time for those who are working or can only come in to vote.

1.  Information regarding the new Union/MCPL agreement that will be presented to the board.  Union members will need to vote on whether to accept the agreement.  We will send out and post information regarding the agreement a few days before the meeting.

2. Our Local Constitution was in need of updating; mostly because of changes in the State and National level.  These changes will need to be approved at the general meeting.

3. We are taking nominations for our local officers for the next two years, our elections will be held towards the middle to late September.  We are looking for staff members who are interested in the Offices of President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer,  Stewards, and Trustees.
